The Caledonian Record recently featured the creation of the Lunenburg-Gilman Community Trust, Inc. (LGCT) — a new nonprofit formed to lead community revitalization efforts in both Lunenburg and Gilman.

The Trust was officially established in December after being recognized by the Vermont Secretary of State, and is now working toward securing 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. With this foundation, the organization can pursue funding and partnerships to support projects that strengthen our town’s economy, preserve historic buildings, and create a vibrant future for residents.

The board is led by Gary Briggs (President), along with Tina Breault (Secretary), Desmond Brown (Treasurer), and Gerald Mertens (Board Member), all dedicated community members.

In September 2024, the LGCT was selected for the Village Trust Initiative (VTI) — a statewide program funded through a Congressionally Directed Spending award from former Senator Patrick Leahy. This program, led by the Preservation Trust of Vermont, the Vermont Council on Rural Development, and the Vermont Community Foundation, provides technical assistance and financial support to help communities bring forward transformational projects.

As part of this initiative, the Trust is receiving expert guidance and resources to move forward with its first major revitalization project in Gilman. Board members have expressed their excitement, noting that this milestone represents a "game-changing moment” for the future of both communities.
